SoCal Nature Kids: LAND
The Southern California Nature Kids family science curriculum enables families to explore and study local nature together through delightful picture books, hands-on activities, nature journaling, neighborhood nature walks and at-home nature study, local animal study, and suggested field trips around Southern California.
Intended for families living in Southern California with children in Kindergarten - 5th grade, Southern California Nature Kids can enable any family to explore and enjoy Southern California nature together, and can also serve as a homeschool science curriculum. Older/younger siblings can join in too!
Written by a local homeschooling mom, 132 pages of lessons are provided for your family’s enjoyment and education.
The curriculum includes 12 lessons devoted entirely to Southern California nature topics related to land, including ecosystems like deserts and forests, earthquakes, energy, Native People of California, mapmaking, urban nature, and more!
Each lesson can be completed as a family in 1-3 weeks and includes:
An introductory lesson/activity written by me teaching you about that topic and how it relates specifically to Southern California
Local field trip ideas focused on different SoCal regions: LA County, Orange County, San Diego County, and the Inland Empire (Riverside/San Bernardino County)… plus some ideas if you live in Santa Barbara, Ventura, or Imperial County.
8-10 beautiful picture book recommendations
a hands-on activity like recipes, art projects, and pretend play ideas
A simple at-home outdoor activity that can be done around your home (whether you live in an apartment or have a yard, there are options for both!)
